Merging The Drift

by Tom Bray

This story introduces a whole new original take on the afterlife, where those who died before reaching their 18th birthday coexist among one another as their adult selves, with the ability to follow a parallel version of themself in a fictional world to see how their life would have turned out, but with no control or influence over this life path. The narrative then unfolds over the course of a week, swapping between the viewpoints of four main characters, but starting with Ali – an occupant of the Drift afterlife entity – sensing a strange connection with a fellow occupant searching for an unprecedented truth of their existence, which ultimately surfaces a shocking past and connects the main characters in ways that they could not imagine.
